The National Centre for Dairy Education will be renamed in 2018, becoming DairyLearn, a national training network comprising preferred Registered Training Organisations, aligned with Dairy Australia.

The new education model has been developed to link preferred training providers in all dairy regions with industry-approved resources and tools.

All existing NCDE training providers have been invited to be the initial members of the new DairyLearn Provider Network, which will be expanded to incorporate new best-fit providers in all regions during the coming months.

Dairy Australia program manager Shane Hellwege said the new model would give more dairy workers access to consistent high-quality information and nationally recognised qualifications.

‘‘To ensure the most appropriate partners are put in place for each individual region, Dairy Australia’s Regional Development Programs and State Dairy Farmer Organisations are playing a central role in selecting new regional training providers to join the network,’’ Mr Hellwege said.

‘‘The local customisation of delivery, led by the RDPs, will ensure that the DairyLearn activities meet specific local needs while still being aligned to industry priorities.’’

Michael Connor, who sits on the People Development Working Group which helped oversee the changes, said DairyLearn was the next step forward in the evolution of dairy education.

Mr Connor, who farms at Mt Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula and is also chair of Dairy SA, said DairyLearn would allow the programs to be delivered when and where they were needed.

‘‘I reckon it will give us the flexibility across Australia to have the best form of delivery to suit each region, utilising the best targeted deliverers that are available,’’ he said.
